Dorothy Firman, pictured here with her first granddaughter Sarah (One of her favorite pastimes) is a founder of the Synthesis Center and has directed its Professional Training Program for more than thirty years. Didi is certified in psychosynthesis and hypnotherapy and has extensive training in Gestalt therapy, Transactional Analysis, family therapy and transpersonal psychology. She is a founder and past co-chair of The Association for the Advancement of Psychosynthesis. Didi is also a professor at Union Institute & University's Vermont College campus where she teaches in the field of counseling and psychology. |

| Didi is also well know for the mother/daughter relationship workshops that she has run nation-wide with her mother, Julie, and has written a book about this work titled Daughters and Mothers: Healing the Relationship. She has also written Chicken Soup for the Mother/Daughter Soul in conjunction with her mother, sister and the Chicken Soup co-authors. This book was on the New York Times Bestsellers List for nine weeks. She has just finished a second volume of stories for Chicken Soup on the subject. | Didi has done consulting with corporations and organizations around issues of staff interrelations and dynamics. She maintains a private psychotherapy practice at her home in Amherst, Massachusetts. Didi specializes in working with the process of transitions in people's lives whether due to age, tragedy or disease or spiritual/existential crisis. She works with individuals and couples. She offers personal coaching, both face-to-face and on-line. She is the mother of three grown children, grandmother to two, a wife, a martial artist and a potter.
