The Path to Prosperity:

Exploring Your Relationship with Money through Collage

By Jean Gran

Money is a taboo subject in our culture.  In this workshop we used a creative psychosynthesis model to challenge this taboo.  Participants had the opportunity, using journaling and collage, to explore their current relationship with money, their ideal relationship with money, and the path that could connect them.

This workshop provided the opportunity to quickly and lightly explore ones relationship with money through a variety of psychological functions.  In addition to thinking, participants engaged their imagination and intuition through collage and journaling.  This approach allowed for fresh insight and lowered defenses.

We used a three step process of guided imagery, collage, and journaling to explore our relationship with prosperity and the energy of money as it flows through our lives.  Each participant received three sheets of paper for collage and journaling and the floor was covered with bright images from magazines, markers, glue sticks, and scissors.

The workshop was broken into the following 3 stages:

1.     Collage #1-Explored participantsŐ present relationship with money and addressed the question, "Where are you now?"  Following a brief guided meditation   participants created a collage of images and words representing their current relationship with money and journaled about their feelings, needs, and wants in relationship to money.

2.     Collage #2-Explored participants' ideal relationship with money and answered the question, "What's emerging?"  Following a guided meditation where we climbed a mountain, left behind current limitations, and met a wise being, we created a collage representing our ideal relationship with money and journaled about that ideal destination on our path to prosperity.

3.     Journaling-Through journaling participants had the opportunity to explore and answer the following questions:

a.      "What is blocking my journey toward a more prosperous life?"

b.     And, "What are the next steps on my path to prosperity?"

After creating an affirmation to guide them on their path to prosperity, participants had the option to share their images and insights.  Many participants found that breaking this old taboo and taking a light and imaginative approach to their relationship with money gave them new perspective and insight.
